For Festival XIV we considered the theme of Saving + Spending in its various forms: preserving and depleting, withholding and indulging, or sustaining and discontinuing. Extending far beyond the economic realm, our theme dealt with issues at the very center of human relationships and the human experience — the political, cultural, aesthetic, and moral implications of which were explored from the perspective of the humanities and the arts. Festival XIV: Saving + Spending, October 25 – November 9, 2003.
