Festival Program
For much of the 20th century, Albania was a mystery to the outside world. Isolated under iron-fisted communist rule, the country steadily descended into ruin. When the regime fell in 1991, tens of thousands of Albanians fled in a matter of months—many into neighboring Italy. Directed by Gianni Amelio, Italy/France, 1994, 35mm, 116 mins. In Italian with English subtitles. Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
