Festival Program
Nouadhibou, a seaside village on the Mauritanian coast, is a transit spot—people visit to earn money before leaving for somewhere else. Themes of exile, home, and displacement are examined as 17 year-old Abdallah visits his mother before emigrating to Europe. A melancholic boy, he's a stranger in his own country. Directed by Abderrahmane Sissako, France/Mauritania, 2002, 35mm, 95 mins. In French, Hassanya and Japanese with English subtitles.
