Gay Talese in conversation with Alex Kotlowitz
05/10/2006
A pioneer of new journalism, Gay Talese was one of the first writers to apply the techniques of fiction to nonfiction, a style he honed while reporting for Esquire and the New York Times in the 1960s. Join him as he speaks to award-winning writer Alex Kotlowitz (There Are No Children Here) about his long-awaited memoir, A Writer’s Life—a candid and humorous look at the serendipitous, meticulous process of getting a story right.
Talese’s previous books include The Kingdom and the Power, an intimate portrait of the New York Times; Honor Thy Father, a compassionate portrayal of underworld crime figures; and Thy Neighbor's Wife, a #1 New York Times bestseller. In 2003, Talese published The Gay Talese Reader, which draws from his journalistic works published between 1961 and 1997.
