Words and Birds@PLAY!
09/16/2005

Words and Birds@PLAY! The Chicago Park District (CPD) and the Children’s Humanities Festival (CHF) invite you to explore words and birds at Northerly Island, Chicago’s newest natural playground for families, and discover what the Park District and the Festival have to offer families this fall. Come out and play with words in workshops with poets from Words@PLAY, the CPD and CHF’s poetry program for children, and learn about birds who make Northerly Island their ‘home away from home’ during migrations.

Activities run 4:00 - 6:30 pm, while walking tours and poetry sessions begin at 5:00 pm.

Just before sunset, Joan Dickinson presents her piece The Language of Birds, a performance inspired by Northerly Island that invites interaction with seven rocking chairs, the performers and the environmental sounds of the island. End your evening with a picnic on the lawn and watch the film Fly Away Home, (directed by Duma’s Carroll Ballard), about a family of orphaned geese who lose their way and a 14 year old kid who leads them home. To achieve the incredible, you have to attempt the impossible.

::Poet workshops: 5:00, 5:45, 6:30 pm
