Position Title: Education Intern (Fall 2005)
Reports To: Education Program Manager

Position Description:
The Chicago Humanities Festival (CHF), a unique celebration of urban culture and the life of the mind, produces a major annual Festival of ideas and a series of events and educational programs throughout the year. CHF’s fall Festival features more than 150 public events at over 30 sites. CHF promotes the humanities as central to civic life and lifelong learning. Collaborating with nearly 40 of Chicago’s major cultural and educational institutions, CHF has an international reputation for innovation and creativity, featuring an exceptional roster of speakers and performing artists.

The 16th annual Festival, Home and Away, we’ll examine historical and present-day issues of human migration, immigration, exile, empire, and homelands. We’ll explore the lure of travel and exploration, while considering the comforts of more familiar turf. And we’ll consider what, in the global 21st century, we mean by the concept of “home.” As usual, the Festival addresses the theme by combining performance with talks, readings, panels, and discussions that encompass musical theater, history, literature, visual arts, criticism, film, fashion, philosophy, journalism, and public policy.

The Chicago Humanities Festival Internship Program welcomes students and graduates to experience the inner workings of a non-profit education outreach program. This education internship will require a commitment of 12-18 hours per week (including some weekends, during the Festival period only), starting in early September and ending in November 2005.
