Festival Program
The distinguished Yale professor illustrates how key black dances in Latin America exhibit strong, vivid influences from the kingdom of Kongo. In a lively lecture with slides, video, boom-box accompaniment and conga drum solo, Thompson examines Latin dance traditions such as tango, mamba, and the conga line, relating them to recent trends in hip-hop (b-boying) and L.A. black dance (krumpin) that share this history and extend its glory.
